Overview: What's Different?

The new 2026 courses are entirely new productions — not edits of the originals. Each new course covers approximately 70–90% of its existing counterpart. The content that was removed was intentional: deeper, advanced material that isn't needed for day-one crew readiness.

Each course includes new quizzes, checklists, and video content that are separate from the existing versions.

Here's a quick comparison:

  New Courses (2026) Existing Courses
Production quality Modern, professional Older production style
Languages English + Spanish English only (most)
Video format Horizontal + vertical Horizontal only
Content depth Focused on day-one essentials Full depth, including advanced material
Course length Shorter, more focused Longer, more comprehensive
Branding Updated (yellow/blue, standardized) Legacy branding

💡 Note: The Spanish narration in the new courses uses high-quality, AI-generated voiceover in a Latin American dialect.

Course-by-Course Breakdown

Below is a summary of what each new course covers compared to the original, and what content has moved or is planned for future courses.

1. Blower Basics (8 Lessons)

The new Blower Basics course covers all of the core topics from the original — introduction, starting the engine, basic operation techniques, and hazards — while adding several new lessons not found in the original:

  • Inlet Filter Check

  • Dust and Pedestrian Safety

  • Zone Clearing Pattern

  • Noise Courtesy and Idle

PPE is briefly mentioned within lessons rather than as a standalone topic.

2. Defensive Driving Essentials (8 Lessons)

This course covers the key areas from the original, including rules of the road, vehicle checks, vision techniques, and driver fitness. A few things to know:

  • Driving Conditions (weather, road conditions) has been broken out into a separate upcoming course: Defensive Driving: The Space Cushion.

  • The original "Emotions" content from The Driver section has been removed.

  • Vehicle-related content (daily circle check, cab prep and startup) is now covered in its own dedicated lessons.

3. Fuel and Engine Basics (7 Lessons)

Covers fuel types, engine identification, fuel handling and safety, and hazard awareness. Key differences:

  • Diesel engines and fuel are only briefly mentioned (yellow fuel can coding). A separate diesel-focused course may come in the future.

  • Starting a small engine has been moved to each individual equipment course instead of being covered here.

  • Equipment-specific hazards (pinch points, hot components) are now addressed in each equipment course.

4. Common Equipment Hazards (7 Lessons)

This is an entirely new course with no previous version. It covers:

  • Personal Hazard Identification

  • Vibration (HAVS)

  • The Bystander Bubble

  • Property Preservation and Hazards

  • Exhaust Heat Safety

  • Stored Energy Check

While PPE is touched on briefly in every new course, this one goes deeper into common hazards and how PPE mitigates them.

5. Small Walk Behind Essentials (8 Lessons)

Covers the core operating and safety topics for walk-behind mowers — pre-start hazard scans, starting procedures, slope operation, and hazards. Key differences:

  • Parts of the mower, cleaning the mower, and detailed mowing efficiency techniques are not included. These are earmarked for a future advanced course: Small Walk Behind Efficiency.

  • Day-one employees typically won't need to troubleshoot mower parts, which is why this content was separated.

6. Edger and Trimmer Safety (7 Lessons)

This is a combined course that replaces the two separate existing courses for String Trimmer and Edger. It covers:

  • Safe starting sequence (shared for both tools)

  • The Throw Zone and tree protection (trimmer)

  • Edger operations and kickback

  • Hazards distributed across multiple lessons

⚠️ Not included: Changing trimmer line, changing edger blades, and detailed parts identification. These are planned for a separate advanced course.

7. Truck & Trailer Operations (8 Lessons)

Covers hooking up a trailer, weight distribution, tie-downs, tarping, and more. Several new lessons have been added:

  • Breakaway Battery Test

  • Four-Point Equipment Tie-Down

  • Tarping and Debris Control

  • Final Yard Exit Check

💡 Note: Pre-trip inspections, trailer inspections, and circle checks have moved to the Defensive Driving Essentials course.

FAQ

Q: I see duplicate courses in my library. What's going on?
A: The new 2026 courses are separate additions to your Training Library — they do not replace the originals. The new courses are condensed, day-one essentials versions, while the originals remain available with full-depth content.

Q: My learning path still shows the old course. Is that correct?
A: Yes. Existing learning paths are not affected by the addition of the new courses. The new courses appear as separate items in your Training Library.

Q: Can I swap the old course for the new one in my learning path?
A: Yes! Admins can manually edit their learning paths to include the new courses. Please note that employee progress will not carry over between the old and new versions since they have different quizzes and checklists.

Q: The new course is missing a specific topic I expected. Why?
A: The new courses are intentionally focused on day-one essentials — the knowledge your crew needs to work safely and effectively from their first day. Advanced and specialized content still lives in the original full-depth courses, and additional advanced courses are planned for the future.

Q: Why does the Spanish audio sound different?
A: The Spanish narration in the new courses uses AI-generated voiceover. It is high quality and uses a Latin American dialect.
