Session Two: Tracking, Assessments and Course Builder

Greenius For Educators 2: A Guide

This is the second of two articles outlining the features of Greenius that apply well in an educational setting.  This first article provides an overview of Greenius and covers the basics of account setup and managing students.

This Article explains a step by step instruction followed by Academy Video 2: "Tracking, Assessment & Course builder"

This article will show you how to:

  • Conduct checklists and tailgate talks using the Greenius App.
  • Access reports and training completion records within Greenius.
  • Create a custom course within Greenius.

This article will focus on the features of Greenius which are relevant to educators. To clarify these points, or to learn more about Greenius, be sure to check out the Help and Resources tab at the bottom left corner of your Greenius interface.

Student Experience

While the manager side of Greenius is designed to intuitively let you perform admin tasks, the employee side of Greenius is designed to be very clear and sequential.  As mentioned in the last article, the training instructions given to learners primarily consist of a link and a 7-Digit Training ID.

The training instructions can be texted, emailed or printed.  They look like this:

Following that link to the Greenius website-  https://gogreenius.com/, students can click on “Training Login”

They will select their language:

Then be prompted to enter the 7-digit training ID.

This will bring them to their training homepage.

Homepage

Upon logging in, they will see the list of courses assigned to them with their status, exam score and due date.  Clicking on a course will allow them to take it.

Taking Courses

Most courses within Greenius are video based.  They are laid out like this:

Students click through each page, watching the videos and taking occasional ungraded true/false quizzes.  At the end of the course is a prompt to take the final exam.

The final exam has 15 questions by default, though this can be changed through the settings menu (Settings > Company Settings > Details > Manage Courses).

Remember also, that you can adjust the passing exam score for your students through the settings menu (Settings > Company Settings > Details >Set Recert and Exam Scores).

The questions and answer options are presented in randomized order each time.

They are able to retake the course/exam as many times as needed until they pass, but the course will not be counted as complete for them until they complete the in-field checklist with their supervisor.

Checklists

As discussed in the last article, checklists are a required assessment for students to complete a Greenius course.  After taking an assigned course and successfully passing the exam on their own, students then complete the in-field checklist with their supervisor (this may be a senior student, instructor or teaching assistant in an educational setting). Supervisors will see on their app when a student is ready to complete a checklist.

They are called ‘in-field' checklists because they are meant to be completed in a practical setting, applying the skills covered in the training.

They are meant to be conducted conversationally; the supervisor reads the prompt written in red, and checks the answer boxes as the student mentions or completes each point.

Missed points are teachable moments- if they miss a point, talk it over with them to make sure they have an overall understanding.  Upon completion, both the student and supervisor sign off on the checklist, and that course is then marked as complete within the Greenius system.

Previewing Checklists

To preview any checklist, you can find them in the training library.  From the Greenius home page, select the “Training Library" from the left hand menu, then ‘Checklists” below that.

Here you will see all of the checklists that you have activated within your account (recall that you are able to activate or deactivate courses and checklists within your account settings).

From this library, you can choose to preview or edit any checklist by clicking on the icon next to it, or even create a new one by clicking the green plus button in the bottom right corner.

Editing Checklists

Selecting to preview or edit a checklist from the library will open the checklist in a new window.

Notice that every point- both the red prompts for the supervisor to read and the black answer statements- are customizable.

The red supervisor prompts can be edited, deleted, or moved within the list.  Black answer statements can be edited or deleted, or you can add more answers using the plus icon.  This is a really useful feature to tailoring courses to your needs.  For example, most courses talk about equipment broadly, but there may be features specific to the make/model of equipment you are using you would like covered.

Creating Crews

Creating crews is a mandatory step in order to complete checklists.  This will determine which supervisor is responsible for conducting the course checklist with a student once they have completed their exam.

You can assign them all to yourself, but having only one person to complete the checklist with students can create a bottleneck.  You can share this workload with senior students, teaching assistants, or colleagues by creating multiple crews within Greenius.  This allows you each to have smaller groups of students whose checklists you will complete

To edit or create crews, from the Greenius homepage, click on Settings in the bottom left corner, then “Crews” under Company Settings on the tab that appears.

Here, you will see a list of your crews- including their crew name and crew leader.  To create a new crew, select the green plus button in the bottom right corner.

After clicking the green plus button, follow the steps to create your crew, clicking next to proceed.

Step 1: Crew Details (including crew name, branch and manager)

  • Note that selecting the branch is unimportant for use in education
  • Note that the managers to select from in the drop down menu are determined by you within Settings > Company Settings > Managers

Step 2: Add Crew Member (You will select from your employee list)

When crew leaders sign into Greenius app to complete checklists and tailgate talks, they will see only the crew members assigned to them.

Completing Checklists

Within the Greenius app, supervisors will see the students assigned to them, and which ones are ready to complete checklists.  It's up to you to schedule when these actually take place so that both supervisor and student are ready, and can complete it with any relevant equipment.

The app is free to download and is available on Apple and Android devices.  Signing into the Greenius App is a simple process. From the app homepage, select Login as Crew Lead & Supervisor.

You will be prompted to enter your ID and password.

Upon signing in, you will see the main menu of tasks you can complete with the app. From this list, select “Field Checklists”.

Selecting this will show you the students assigned to you, along with the number of checklists they have due.  Select the student you will be completing a checklist with.

Selecting their name will show you the training they need to complete a checklist for.

Choosing that training will give you the opportunity to add more students to this checklist- if they are on your list and also ready to complete that checklist.

Click continue, then “Start Checklist” to begin.  The Checklist will appear one question at a time.

Following the prompts, read each prompt (written in red) out loud, and check the boxes as the student completes each of the points.

Remember that the checklist itself is meant to be treated as a teaching guide.  Don't expect students to know every checkpoint exactly, but rather expect that they’ve gained a general understanding from the course, and any missed points are teaching opportunities.

They may be verbal answers, or demonstrations with a tool, equipment or technique.

Check each answer as it is discussed- all points must be checked to proceed.

At the end of the checklist, you will each be required to sign off on the training.

Once the signatures are submitted, the completion of the course will be reflected in the employee’s profile.

Printing Completed Checklists

From the Employee list, you can print the checklist if you wish. This can be done from the Employee Details tab, by clicking on Tasks > Employee Progress > View  Completed Checklists.

This will show you a list of the completed courses, select the course you want to view/print.

From here, you can see the details of the course and checklist, and you will have the option to print.

Tailgate Talks

Tailgate talks are used for ongoing staff training throughout the year.  Within Greenius, they are discussion guides covering various topics which are led by crew leaders or supervisors.  Attendance of tailgate talks is tracked within the Greenius system. They are conducted using the Greenius app similar to checklists.

You can preview all Tailgate talks within the training library.  This can be accessed from the left hand menu- select Training Library > Tailgates to view them.

Here, you will see all of the Tailgate Talks listed, and just like checklists, you have the option to preview, edit or print any from this menu.  You can also create your own entirely by selecting the Green plus button in the bottom right corner.

As you preview a Tailgate talk, the interface to edit, delete or add talking points is the same as it is for checklists.

Within the Greenius app, select Tailgate Talks from the main menu of the manager/crew lead sign in and following the prompts from there.

You will have to then select Language (English/Spanish).  From there, you will have access to the entire Tailgate talk library. Select the Tailgate which you would like to complete.

mceclip9.png

After choosing the topic, then add all employees who are present for the tailgate talk by tapping the Select button to the left of their name. If you are hosting this Tailgate Talk with employees outside of your crew, you can use the Company Directory link at the bottom of the page to add additional employees to your list for the day. Once you have completed this attendance list, scroll down and tap> Continue

mceclip10.png

If you accidently added someone to the tailgate talk who isn't there, or if they suddenly have to leave, you can remove them by tapping the red icon with the trashcan to the left of their name. This will remove them from the list so they are not counted as present if they are not there.

Then scroll down and tap> “Start Tailgate”

mceclip11.png

Once the Tailgate is in progress, you will go through the various talking points with your crew and check them off as you go, by tapping the check box to the left of each point. You don't necessarily need to read each line word for word.

Think of these tailgate talks as being similar to the queue cards you would use to give a presentation. These are simply helpful talking points to help you facilitate this safety meeting. Tailgate talks can also be used as a group discussion, with students offering their own knowledge to the conversation.

Course Builder

Course builder is the most recent feature added to Greenius. This lets you create video courses within the Greenius system and format.  The videos must be hosted on Youtube or Vimeo, so you can record your own and upload it to one of those sites, or use any existing video already there.  Using the URL to these videos, you can create a course with it, even with quizzes and checklists if you want!

This feature has limitless applications and is particularly relevant to those using Greenius in education. It's a great way to keep students accountable for watching a video assigned to them, or for posting class announcements, or recordings of your lessons.

To access the course builder in Greenius, click on Training Library> Course Builder from the left hand menu.

Here, you’ll be guided through the four steps to create your course:

Step 1: Add Details (including Title, Tags and Description)

Step 2: Add Chapters (this is where you will past the URL to the video of your choice; a course may have multiple videos/chapters)

Step 3: Create quiz (this is optional)

Step 4: Create Checklist (this is also optional)

Remember to click “Publish” when you are finished with all four steps.  After that, it will appear along with all of the other courses in your course library, and it can be assigned to students along with a due date just like all other courses.

Reports

Reports are the final feature of Greenius covered in this article.  Reports can be used to help track individual or group information in a variety of topics.  You are also able to export/print reports as either PDF or Excel files (depending on the type of report).

The different types of reports are listed when you click on “Reports” in the left hand menu of Greenius.  From this menu, select the report that you want to view.

“Individual Employee Reports” are a great way to get a feel for a single student’s progress. It shows their overall exam average, as well as tailgate attendance history and course statuses. It can be printed as a PDF if needed using the “Export to PDF” button on the right.

The “Past Due Training Report” is a good way to narrow down which students need to catch up on assigned courses.  This can be exported as an Excel file.

Reports by Date:

“Reports by Date” is a useful feature to sort through student records at the end of the year.  For example, you could search for employees who have completed all courses during the semester and print their training certificates right from there.

Here is what a Greenius Training certificate looks like:
